Guestpost Night at Vogue - my story of Stockholm Fashion Week

Stockholm fashion week is four times a year held collection of events organized by the Swedish fashion council. Naturally the most important fashion weeks are January/February and August. May and November are smaller and mostly just for Swedes themselves. I had the great opportunity to attend Stockholm fashion week through school and naturally I went for it! I hope you will enjoy my story of Stockholm fashion week!

Stockholm fashion week was held 6-12.2 this year and I were there from 5-9.2 . There were so many things I got to see and learn there during that time. I visited countless of showrooms (well, actually about 12), had three interviews with interesting fashion designers, went to one exhibition and attended two fashion shows. Even for somebody who studies fashion that is quite an impressive total number of events. And even more for to fit all of them to such a small window of time!

On Monday, our first workday during the fashion week we visited Minna Heino showroom and saw so many beautiful shoes! After that we went to the biggest fashion fair during the fashion week, ModeCenter. ModeCenter is a large space, where countless of brands have showrooms and during the fashion week also some trend displays and fashion editorial exhibition. At the ModeCenter I visited most of the showrooms during the whole week. Soya Concept, Repeat, Saint Tropez, V collection, Turnover and Sandwich are just some examples of the brands who I visited. It was super exciting for a fashion geek like me to be able to see and touch the real future collections of fall 2012 and winter 2013. And boy, is there some cool clothes coming our way!

Tuesday I didn’t have much to do so I had the opportunity to just walk around Stockholm –a city that I like quite much now. In the afternoon I had very exciting interview with young fashion designer Regina Rönnquist, who was so sweet and kind and who had a very exciting collection for next fall. She also got me and my friend into a fashion show held at the ModeCenter. Her friend was the stylist, which just goes to prove that you never can have too many friends and that connections are everything.

Wednesday proved out to be a busy day. First we went to a Rookies press show that showcased 12 young designers from Sweden and also had two guest designers from Finland. Stutterheim, Johanna Pihl and Bedazzled were my favorites out of the contestants. After the show we rushed upstairs to visit a designer Maria Silverschiöld who was just starting out with her collection. Her collection had lovely leather pieces and evening gowns with sewn in sports bras. And for a rookie like me it was a great opportunity to talk to somebody who has worked in fashion like she had – more than 10 years as a buyer at H&M. Imagine that!

After the interview with Maria we went again by train to the ModeCenter to see the fashion show Regina had talked us into. The show was called “Finnish Fashion Illuminated” and as a Finn my self it was interesting to see show named like that in Stockholm fashion week. The show was long, more than 40 looks and it looked very nice, it even had a Finnish fashion brand I didn’t even know about – Arelalizza! After having taken photos like a crazy person at the fashion shows I still had two more stops in my way: Exhibition about smart textiles and yet another designer interview! The “Smart textiles” exhibition was very exiting and it really had the newest things in textile industry, for an example we saw there a fabric that changed color completely after when it was heated (with a hair dryer)! The last designer interview was with the designer of Estonian couture brand – Pohjanheimo. Ülle Pohjanheimo was super nice and

to our benefit she even spoke Finnish. The clothes were naturally very glamorous and luxurious. And the thing that amazed me most in all was the quality of the clothes. I honestly have never seen anything made with such a care and skill.

To wrap up the week I have to say it was the most amazing time and a great opportunity. I have for my whole small life dreamed to be in a real fashion show and it is a thing I don’t think I could ever get tired of. Thank you all for reading my story of Stockholm Fashion week! I hope you enjoyed!
